Bennett Ley Kenyon was a Prisoner of War in Stalag Luft III at the time of the Great Escape in March 1944. During the preparation and arduous digging of the tunnels Kenyon was asked by the escape commitee to make a visual record of 'Harry' - the tunnel that would ultimately be used for the escape. Six drawings were produced and stored in a watertight container in the abondoned tunnel 'Dick'.
The drawings were later recovered and are now held at the RAF Museum in Hendon as items of historical importance. |
