He went on to take command of 112 (Shark) Sqn in the Western Desert flying the P-40 and also led the Spitfire Wing in Malta in 1943, finishing the war with 241/2 victories.
Wing Commander TOM NEIL DFC* AFC - he flew Hurricanes with 249 Sqn during the Battle of Britain with great success, later flying off HMS Ark Royal in Malta and returned to the UK to command 41 Sqn. He later joined the 9th US Air Force as a Flying Liaison Officer with the 100th Fighter Wing before a spell as a Test Pilot, finishing the War with 12 & 4 shared victories.

HALIFAX AIRCREW SIGNING EVENT - 28th FEBRUARY
|

Introduced towards the end of 1940, the Handley Page Halifax was one of only a few British four-engine heavy bombers to remain in service until the end of the war in May 1945. During this time, Halifaxes of RAF Bomber Command took part in over 82,000 Operations and dropped nearly a quarter of a million tons of bombs but this also came at a huge price with a significant amount of both aircraft and brave aircrew lost. We are delighted to announce a very special event at the UK Gallery where we will be joined by aircrew who all served on the mighty Halifax Bomber:
Flying Officer FRANK WALKER, Warrant Officer HARRY GOUGH, Warrant Officer ERIC COPE, Warrant Officer LAURIE GODFREY, Flight Lieutenant JOE PETRIE-ANDREWS and Warrant Officer FRED MALTAS
