Description

PRODUCED TO BENEFIT THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN FIGHTER ASSOCIATION

Robert Taylor’s stirring painting was inspired by the late Group Captain Peter Townsend’s vivid description of an event that happened to him whilst in command of 85 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. Flying Officer Jim Marshall, was struggling to keep his Hurricane in the air after a collision during an engagement - it was barely flying. Townsend stood guard over the crippled aircraft, and using hand-signals guided the young pilot safely back to their base at Debden. It was a typical act of unselfish leadership from one of the RAF’s most highly regarded fighter leaders.

WHAT BETTER WAY TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR VETERANS WHO FOUGHT THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN THAN WITH THE RELEASE OF THE STUDIO PROOFS OF THIS CLASSIC EDITION, IN THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR OF THIS CRUCIAL CONFLICT - PUBLISHED TO RAISE MUCH NEEDED FUNDS FOR THE BRITAIN FIGHTER ASSOCIATION.

The paper lithographic prints of these two editions can never be surpassed - sadly for all of us, the remarkable pilots who signed them, over thirty years ago, are no longer with us. The signatures of the legendary RAF fighter Aces Peter Townsend, Al Deere, Johnnie Johnson, and Bob Stanford-Tuck, especially in combination with Robert Taylor’s beautiful images, can never be recreated.

For Collectors of historical aviation memorabilia, the significance placed on those highly sought-after editions cannot be changed; their value is everlasting and will continue to be more and more collectable for years to come.

But for lovers of aviation art, the innovative new digital procedure of giclée (more recently used for many of Robert Taylor’s latest works), has now permitted the application of this contemporary technique to complement some of the classic Robert Taylor MasterWorks from earlier times. We can at last release the long awaited Studio Proofs of these memorable editions.

Produced and printed onto fine canvas under the direct supervision of the artist to match his original painting, and then mounted on to high-quality stretchers.
