THE ENTRANCE - ESCAPERS EDITION

Description

Bennett Ley Kenyon was a Prisoner of War in Stalag Luft III at the time of the Great Escape in March 1944. During the preparation and arduous digging of the tunnels Kenyon was asked by the escape commitee to make a visual record of 'Harry' - the tunnel that would ultimately be used for the escape. Six drawings were produced and stored in a watertight container in the abondoned tunnel 'Dick'. The drawings were later recovered and are now held at the RAF Museum in Hendon as items of historical importance.

In conjunction with the RAF Museum 'The Entrance' was reproduced directly from one of those historical drawings and depicts the opening of tunnel 'Harry', hidden beneath the stove in Hut 104, one officer helping another into the 30-foot vertical shaft, as a 'stooge' keeps an eye out for patrolling German guards.

What makes this release so special is its exceptional link to the past, a drawing, made at the time by a POW right under the guards' noses, showing the epitome of determination, the desire to overcome oppression and the relentless drive towards freedom.

Each copy in the ESCAPERS EDITION is conservation matted to include a brass uniform button worn by inmates of the camp, which was recovered from the area of Hut 104 - issued with certificate of authenticity from the Great Escape museum in Zagan, Poland.
